Following jdb's very wise choice to support the Toffees (see the fan post on the right)I thought I throw it open to Evertonians everywhere - Why did you start supporting them?
For many (like me) it was a family thing. My Grandad support Everton and so passed that on to his children and then onto me. I was warned at a very young age the consequences of supporting Liverpool!
Maybe it is a favourite player? My favourite as a youngster was Duncan Ferguson. A tall, Scottish centre froward with a slightly mad streak (he once spent time in jail for headbutting another player). He always saved his best performances for the matches that mattered and his towering headers against the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool will go down in history.
Nowadays, especially for Toffees across the pond, it is Everton's US representatives that inspired them to support the Blues. Tim Howard has proven himself to be a truly World-class 'keeper through his performances both for Everton and America. Landon Donovan, arguably the USA's most marketable player, spent a successful loan spell at Goodison last season, returning to America with only good things to say about his time there. Is he the catalyst for your support?
Sometimes it is a certain game, goal,or moment. Memorable games over the past few years include the 3-0 win over Liverpool in 2006, last season's 3-1 win over Champions Manchester United and 2009's FA Cup semi-final against the same opponents, which saw the Blues go through on penalties.
Feel free to leave your reasons and favourite Everton memories below. And if you don't support Everton tell us why, so we can persuade you otherwise!
