Is this all a dream or are Everton getting their ass into gear in this summer's transfer window? After the previous two summers threatened (and last season - succeded) in de-railing our season, the club have decided to be decisive this time round, perhaps so they can get all their work done in time to watch the World Cup?
The latest new arrival is Portugese striker Joao Silva. The 20-year-old Under-20 international put pen-to-paper on a three year contract after Everton agreed a £500,000 deal with his club Desportivo Das Aves.
The The 6'2" forward scored 14 goals in 32 appearances for Liga Vitalis side Aves last season, his first season in senior football.
Other than that I can't see I know much about the kid (his Wikipedia page doesn't offer any more info either). Rumours are our former full-back Nuno Valente did some scouting for us back in his homeland and recmommended Silva to Moyes.
Knowing our manager he was thorough in his research and sees Silva as a striker with some potential.Us fans can only hope he is right!
A third signing already this close-season suggests Moyes is keen to avoid a similar situation to last year, where his small senior squad was regulary down to the bare bones, with our manager doggidly preferering to "go with what we;ve got" rather than bloat his side with squad players.
This time though he appears keen to sign young and hungry players, who will prove far more effective as a subsitute than the bench full of kids he regualry had to field last year.
As I said with out previous signing Jermaine Beckford, I expect Silva to have a bench role for much of next season. A spot previously occupied by James Vaughan who surely must be staring at the exit door.
As for the Yak? Well the club have denied rumours linking him with a move to West Ham, there may be a future for him at the club after all. The added competition may bring the best out of him once more.
What do you guys think of the Silva signing? Is he the answer? Anyone know any more about him??
