Everton So Far

Everton So Far

With nearly a third of the Premier League season already completed, Everton sit 9th on the table and only two points away from fourth placed Manchester United and also above rivals Liverpool who occupy 12th place. After a shaky start consisting of only one win the first seven games, Everton are now on a five match undefeated streak in the league. From the lows of key players such as Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas injured as well as masses of other injured players to the highs of Phil Jagielka’s last minute blinder of an equaliser against Liverpool and the exciting football they bring to the table in each outing.

August:

As mentioned a very slow start compared to last season which took off in no time. Defensive mistakes ensured that Everton played out a 2-2 draw with newly promoted Leicester on the opening day and 2-2 draw with Arsenal in which Everton were up 2-0. A classy Diego Costa meant Everton were without a win in the first three games as they lost 6-3 to Chelsea.

September:

Everton finally got their first win of the season in a 2-0 victory of West Bromich Albion. This however was followed up by a thrilling 2-3 loss at their own ground to Crystal Palace. The first Merseyside derby was upon as in September and it did not prove to disappoint. With Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard opening scoring with a free kick from short range it took heroics from the Blue’s skipper who scored an inside of the foot, half volley from range to break Liverpool hearts in stoppage time. But from this draw meant only one win in 2 months of football in the Premier League.

October:

The month of October started off poorly as Everton lost 2-1 at Old Trafford against Manchester United. Things proved to be on the up for Everton as that was the last lost for Everton for October and November in all competitions. Everton notched up their second win of the season with a classy 3-0 victory over a very poor Aston Villa. A 3-1 away to Burnley meant that October was finished on a high.

November:

November starting with a dull 0-0 draw with Swansea. Sunderland was a difficult challenge and it took the coolness of Leighton Baines from the penalty spot to salvage a 1-1 draw. But the month of November would finish on a fine note as the Toffees beat the Hammers 2-1 thanks to Romelu Lukaku and Leon Osman on his 400th appearance in an Everton shirt.

Everton can build from these results and will go into December and the New Year with the determination to play Champions League football.
