David Moyes Leaves Everton To Be Manchester United Manager

It has been confirmed that David Moyes has left Everton after 11 years to take over as Manchester United manager.

He arrived as a relative unknown from Preston North End, and now he will leave to manage one of the biggest clubs in the footballing world. David Moyes has been named the next manager of Manchester United where he will succeed fellows Scot and legend Sir Alex Ferguson. The move brings an end to an 11 season stint at Everton where he will be best remembered for returning Everton to the top third of the table while doing it on a shoestring budget.

Though Moyes never managed to get that elusive trophy at Everton, he became the first, and arguably only club to break into the Champions League with such a small budget, edging out Liverpool during the 2004/2005 season. During his 11 seasons at Everton, Moyes managed to become only the 4th manager behind Sir Alex, Arsene Wenger, and Harry Redknapp to record 150 wins in the Premier League, and he has managed over 400 games at the highest level of English football.

He is best known for his ability to pinch pennies in the transfer market, with signings such as Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill being some of hist best. Everton had an average net spend of just over 2 million quid during Moyes tenure, and an average finish of 7th place. Compare that to Totenham who have spent an additional 25 million per year over the same tenure and have the same average finish. Now Moyes will get to increase that spending more than 10 times over.

As for Everton, it is no joke to say these are the darkest days for the club since the early 2000's. This is a squad that could easily see its biggest pieces sold, and regardless of who gets to run the ship, they are unlikely to be as good at finding good transfer market deals as Moyes was. While predictions of relegation are simply nonsense, it is going to be a nervous season for the Goodison Park faithful.

Until then all we can do is sit back and enjoy the summer, it is sure to be a wild ride.
